Appearance: Aika has a pale brown coloured complexion, with wild, curly black hair, which reaches down to her shoulder blades. Her onyx eyes are almond shaped. She is slender and lithe, which belies her strength and muscles. Her bust is of an above average size but is often kept bound so as to not impede her work. Aika is 5’3 in height, which often frustrated her in her youth. Despite her age, she appears to be in her early to mid-thirties.
Her shihakushō consists of a short shitagi, kosode and hakama, to better aid her movement and fighting style. Because of this choice, however, Aika’s legs and arms are covered in pale scars, which she keeps as badges of honour and refuses to get healed properly. Instead of a white obi, her sash is instead a carmine red scarf, which was given to her by her girlfriend. A black, velvet choker is always around her throat.
When not in uniform, Aika can usually be found in a tailored suit. The suit is usually black in colour, with a red blouse, however, the colours do vary depending on the day. When she needs to work out, she will wear black three-quarter length leggings and a crop top.
Personality: Aika tends to fixate on her problems and will not stop until she solves them. She can be kind, though she has little patience for people who she deems to be idiots, or those who treat her as such. Impatience and anger come quickly to her, though they also can fade in the blink of an eye and turn to mirth and warmth. While she seems to be trustworthy, she will not hesitate to betray those around her if doing so will provide any kind of advantage towards her goals. She often finds herself at odds with her division's purpose, as she has little aptitude for kidō and finds tending to the ill and injured grating.
Biography:
In her human life, Aika worked in espionage, playing off rival shogun against one another. She was trained by her parents from a very young age, being taught to disguise herself and how to sneak in and around the busy compounds of warlords without being detected. By the time puberty hit, she was proficient in many of the skills of assassination and espionage. When she was of an age to marry, she ran off, unwilling to submit and subject herself to the domination of another. She threw herself wholeheartedly and single-mindedly into her work, until the day she met the gaijin.
The gaijin was the most beautiful woman Aika had ever seen. She had long, straight blonde hair, blue eyes, and flawless pale skin. Their first meeting was a chance encounter in a hallway, where Aika nearly dropped to her knees, thinking that the gaijin was a goddess in mortal skin. As it became quickly apparent, the woman (Estrid) had been given to the warlord who employed Aika (Ashikaga Yoshinori) as a token of good faith and gratitude. Estrid’s beauty alone had been enough for Ashikaga to immediately take her as his chief concubine and slaughter the man who had given her on the spot.
As Aika and Estrid grew ever closer, the platonic friendship which grew between them quickly grew romantic and physical. It became quickly apparent to Aika that she was going to kill Ashikaga, consequences be damned, and run away with Estrid so that they could be together in peace. This, however, was not to be. Ashikaga was assassinated during a play by a rival, and Aika capitalised on the opportunity to steal Estrid away. Travelling, it turned out, would not go well for them. Ambushed on the road, Aika managed to fend off her attacker, but was not fast enough to save Estrid. Furious, Aika tried to avenge her love, but it was no use. She died on the spot, with only the strength to move to her love’s arms.
Upon awakening in Soul Society, Aika was overjoyed to reunite with Estrid. Their first hundred years together were full of love, laughter, and happiness; however, it was not to last. Estrid was kidnapped in the middle of the night by an unknown party, and Aika once again was not fast enough to save her. She signed up for the Shinō Academy the next morning. Her focuses while in the Academy were on speed, hand-to-hand combat, and her ability to harness the technique known as shunko. Upon graduation, she has served once again in the role of espionage. At any given moment, however, she is looking for a lead to find her lost love.
Zanpakutō name: Raikō (雷光)
Sealed form: Raikō’s sealed form is that of a wakizashi which is 45cm (approx. 18 inches) in length. The ito (cord wrapping on the hilt) is a deep navy in colour, with what appears to be a deep maroon leather beneath it. The guard is silver-plated and is engraved with patterns of lightning strikes. Raikō’s scabbard is the same, deep navy as its ito, with the end of the scabbard capped in silver.
Shikai release command: Strike, Raikō!
Shikai release form: Upon release, Raikō melts itself down into what appears to be a pair of silver gauntlets which mould themselves over Aika’s hands and wrists. The silver is solid; however, it moves with Aika rather than restricting her movements. As it extends along her forearms (see ability 1) Raikō becomes engraved with the patterns of a storm.
Shikai abilities:
Ability 1: Denki Chikei (電気地形: Lightning terrain) Passive. This ability conjures a storm with lightning strikes which hit the battlefield at random in a 30ft spherical radius which is centred on Aika. The strikes are generally drawn to either the highest point in the arena, or the most conductive materials. Depending on the target’s armour, weaponry, and proximity to the storm, the strikes are more likely to hit Aika than anyone else.
Ability 2: Denchi (電池: battery). Passive. This ability allows Aika to store the energy of the strikes which hit her in Raikō. This manifests as a growth in Raikō, as the silver of her shikai will leech up her arms until the energy is discharged. The major drawback of this is that holding any amount of energy above her elbows deals damage to her. The closer the energy storage gets to her shoulders, the more likely it is that Aika will damage her internal organs and fall unconscious or worse.
Ability 3: Houden (ほうでん: Discharge). Active. This ability allows Aika to release the energy stored through the use of Denchi in one of two ways. Both releases cannot be used simultaneously and grow in power depending on how much energy Aika is currently storing.
· Jishin: (地震: Earthquake). Aika slams the two gauntlets of Raikō together to create a shockwave which radiates in the same area of effect as the storm. This ability has a severe recoil cost, and if not controlled correctly, will break Aika’s bones.
· Manukareru: (免れる: Release). The lightning stored is channelled into punches levelled at Aika’s target. The energy is released over four consecutive punches. If released in an uneven amount, this ability will seriously hurt Aika and drain her stamina.
Bankai name: Arashi no Owari (嵐の終わり: Storm’s End)
Bankai release command: Break them all.
Bankai release form: Instead of merely covering her arms, Arashi no Owari’s true form engulfs Aika from the soles of her feet to the base of her neck. Her skin gleams with the ultra-conductive surface of her bankai, while her eyes become completely white as they crackle with lightning and storm’s fury.
Bankai abilities:
Ability 1: Kakudai (拡大: Expand) Passive. The radius of the storm generated by the shikai release doubles in size. The lightning strikes hit more frequently than before and are 70% more likely to hit Aika than her enemy.
Ability 2: Denka (電荷: Charge) Passive. Whenever the lightning strikes Arashi no Owari, the energy is stored within her, to be discharged using one of her other abilities. If she is hit by seven or more strikes without discharging, Aika will lose control of the energy and it will electrocute her, bringing her bankai to an end and bringing her into a death-like state.
Ability 3: Isoide (急いで : Hasten) Passive. Upon release of Arashi no Owari, Aika’s reiatsu levels lower to increase her speed. While Isoide is active, Aika cannot cast any kidou of any level.
Ability 4: Jishin (地震: Earthquake) Active. Upon activation, Aika will punch the ground using the stored energy from being hit by lightning. The punch will discharge the force into the ground and create a shockwave with the same radius as the storm. This ability will fracture the ground and make the terrain more difficult for both Aika and her opponent.
Ability 5: Bakahatsu (爆発: Explosion) Active. When activated, all of Arashi no Owari’s stored energy turns to lightning and radiates from Aika in a sphere until it hits an object or runs out of energy. This ability expends so much energy that it depletes Aika’s reiatsu even further and her overall stamina decreases. This makes the use of every other ability more dangerous but does not slow Isoide.
