Who can claim the Title of the strongest protagonist in Anime?

I would say it is Saitama from One Punch Man. Since it is designed to be satirical and his power scale cannot be defined at least so far it is safe to say that he is one of the strongest if not the strongest. One more point, unlike other anime characters that need to push to their utmost limits in order to unlock something in them, Saitama has it from the get-go.

I have to agree, his whole design sort of makes a mockery of any serious character claiming to be the strongest because that's the whole point of him!
Who would we give the title to if we leave Saitama out of the equation? I hear people through around the obvious Goku (though he is not even currently the strongest in his own universe), Sailor Moon gets thrown around a lot (Though I have only seen the first 15 episodes of Sailor moon).
I honestly have not kept up with anime a lot in the last several years, so I wouldn't know about some of the newer protagonist.
Honestly most people would just say Goku or Saitama.
Goku isn’t close to being strongest in his own series or even universe. With that being Whis who cannot help. But moving to the point of the thread.
Maybe Light? But don’t think he counts. The notebook makes him kinda dangerous if he knows your name. But I don’t think he counts as protagonists.
Maybe Shinra from fire force.
I get the argument that Goku isn't even the current strongest in his universe. That being said it asks for the strongest protagonist which means Goku could still be in the running.
That said, I agree he probably doesn't take the cake.
I guess no one here has seen Dias ire, the protagonist there is so OP that he can manipulate reality on Universal level and many more abilities. So, Saitama is not taking this.
If Manhua is included then it is definitely Wang lin......... a character form "Daily life of the immortal king". He is truly overpowered!!!!!!!! Saitama is a joke compared to him
@konami31 actually I think the protagonist from the Manhua Cultivator against the Hero Society is Overpowered and the strongest, if we are to add Both Manga, Manhwa and Manhua.

Yeah among the manhua i have watched and read Wang lin is one of the protagonist that is strong and overpowered from the start, he is too OP for anyone and he is the strongest in his verse. In fact, Wang lin doesn't know his current realm of power or how he got his power. But the truth his, he can manipulate the dao or laws of the omniverse as he wishes i.e reality warping. Even his water closet is a sentient being that Wang lin gave intelligence and the water closet has reached the immortal level of cultivation.
