All gud RP'ers and underrated to boot unfortunately. Lot's of people got caught up in the x > y and the conventions of who should 'win' and so on. It's an easy trap to walk into, I did so for a time and I'm sure everyone did at various times.
Strongest BA Roleplay Character will be a close tie between Cy, Lilith and YHWH. Cy for all around ultra-high stats, Lilith for the casual nuke chucking and YHWH for hax. Yes, I realise two of them belong to me XD
Interesting topic but there's no way to answer withough getting into BA politics that were ever-present! Don't know about BAM, MAV or whatever came next though.
On BA itself, it really depends on your determination of 'strength' as it's not as easy as in the show. Either you look at RPing prowess, character abilities, or who won against who. There were the divisions but also the more intense RP section that I never really got into.
The weird hierarchy of who was captain, and who was a smod on top of that also played a huge part into people's perception of who should be the strongest.
There were great RPers on the forum, but not all were interested in having their characters fight or ever got a high enough 'rank' to really showcase anything. Same with the captains and the smods, some of them were just there for the community and to chill and would hardly RP or have their character fight at all.
To me, the strongest characters were the ones with concrete, simple abilities without too many bells and whistles, but were able to use them very creative ways. Some high ranked, some low. I generally liked reading low level spars the most, where a shikai was the final surprise.
The act of sparring as I remember has always seemed magical to me afterwards. It was in a sense just trying to get your opponent to eventually say like "Ok, yeah you got me with that move" without it feeling unfair or unjust. Winning or losing always felt collaborative in a way.

Agreed, the storytelling is the most interesting part of sparring for me these days - I was never that great at creating a narrative and it's shameful to think I once undeservedly counted myself amongst those at the top of the food chain, especially given my most active RP years were those right at the start of me joining 11th Division. Big headed or what?

Will do! I'm sure she didn't mind at all. A lot of the older members on BA probably just rolled their eyes at all the teens flooding in once the show got more popular.
That's also another thing to be considered if we want to talk about who would be strongest! The time in which the character was made, of course. In Bleach there's a terrible power creep going on every arc, with the last arc being one of the worst offenders in my opinion. When I made my first character, Arrancars weren't even 'out' yet, and most bankais remained a mystery. I mean, I would've gotten a bazooka if I knew that was an option!
Man Kubo straight up stole my bankai for Nnoitra, I was so damn mad I ended up changing my entire Bankai. For shame!
